Land For Sale In Smoot

....

Fred Smoot is all set to return to Washington Redskins after spending two years with Minnesota Vikings. It is a good thing that Smoot decided to return and be present for his reunion with the Redskins because nothing much has happened in the team during the first three days of free agency.

After free agency opened, Smoot and linebacker London Fletcher are the only players the Redskins have signed till now. Coach Joe Gibbs said no new free agents were scheduled for visits. This is a lot different from what happened last year when the Redskins signed up 6 players in the first four days of free agency.

The Redskins decided not to sign up offensive lineman Leonard Davis, who asked for a huge deal. Then cornerback Travis Fisher was considered superfluous since the team had already reached an agreement with Smoot.

Smoot he played four seasons with the Redskins before leaving in 2005 for Minnesota Vikings. He would like to forget his two years with the Vikings which saw him suffer injuries, he violated team rules and had a disorderly conduct charge for his behavior at the "Love Boat'' party. Ultimately, he lost his starting job and was cut.

Gibbs now acknowledges that it was a mistake to let go of Smoot two years ago. However, he made it clear the he did not promise Smoot the starting job. Smoot would have to compete with Carlos Rogers and Shawn Springs for playing time. Spring has resisted renegotiating his contract and he could be traded or cut. If that happens, then Smoot could get the starting job.
